What will you do
- Build and improve backend services in Go: REST/gRPC APIs, modern storage (Elasticsearch, ClickHouse), messaging (Kafka, NATS), running cloud-native on Kubernetes and Docker.
- Be the go-to person for our client applications on Windows (C#) and macOS (Swift): building new features, keeping them healthy, and shaping where they go next.
- Stay flexible between backend and client work, going where the team needs you most.
- Work closely with DevOps, QA, and Product Owners to ship things that are robust and pleasant to use.
Our Tech Stack
- We leverage microservices heavily from day one of Whalebone. We containerize everything and orchestrate it through Kubernetes.
- We avoid cloud vendor lock-in and minimize the usage of any cloud provider-specific services. Our backend can be moved to any managed Kubernetes provider instantly.
- Backend is mostly based on Golang, PHP and Java microservices.
- The frontend team's main choice is Vue.js
- Threat Intelligence with their data analysis and machine learning use cases mainly rely on Python.
- And our modules in the DNS resolver itself, as it is a high-performance component, are written in pure C.
- For various use cases of data analysis, we rely mainly on Elasticsearch and Clickhouse, for stream processing Logstash and Kafka and to understand that everything is working fine we observe Grafana dashboards providing us insight into the Prometheus stored metrics.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software development experience
- Hands-on experience developing desktop client applications for Windows or macOS (both is ideal). Something you've built, shipped, and maintained, not just touched. We use C# and Swift, but if you've done this in another stack, that works too.
- Experience with Go, or strong experience in another backend language plus a genuine appetite to learn Go
- Comfortable with SQL databases
- Proficient with Git workflows
- Solid understanding of REST APIs and the practices around them
- You're comfortable working across several areas, and you bring deep expertise in some of them
- Analytical thinking, a sense of ownership, and a collaborative mindset
- Spoken English

- Building, signing, and distributing desktop apps, including auto-updates
